Synopsis:
June 1789. As the Revolution rages across France, the nobles of a province in Roussillon are regularly robbed of their property—in the name of the people—by a masked vigilante who signs his crimes: the Black Tulip. Suspected—rightly so—of being the culprit by Baron La Mouche, and bearing a deep scar on his cheek during a confrontation provoked by the latter, Guillaume de SaintPreux then tasks his younger brother and double, Julien, with assuming his role in society at the home of the Marquis de Vigogne, whose wife is his mistress. There, Julien, whose sympathies lie with the insurgents, learns of the Prince de Grasillac’s plans: to go to Paris and suppress the people. Disappointed by Guillaume’s refusal to help him, he realizes that Guillaume was only using the Black Tulip for his own gain.
