Timbuktu
2013 • 1h40 • Drama
Synopsis:
Not far from Timbuktu, which has fallen under the yoke of religious extremists, Kidane leads a simple and peaceful life in the dunes, surrounded by his wife Satima, his daughter Toya, and Issan, his 12-year-old shepherd boy. In the city, the inhabitants helplessly endure the reign of terror imposed by the jihadists who have seized control of their faith. Gone are the music and laughter, the cigarettes, and even the football… The women have become shadows, trying to resist with dignity. Makeshift courts hand down their absurd and tragic sentences every day. For a time, Kidane and his family seem spared from the chaos of Timbuktu. But their fate takes a dramatic turn the day Kidane accidentally kills Amadou, the fisherman who attacked his favorite cow. He must then confront the new laws imposed by these occupiers from elsewhere…
